Qualifications

• Knowledge of safety guidelines, sanitation, and infection control protocols.
• Ability to perform blood collection techniques successfully across all age groups (neonates to geriatrics).
• Understanding of standards for patient identification, specimen handling, and lab testing requirements.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, staff, and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection (finger and heel sticks) following policies.
• Ensures positive patient identification using two identifiers and bedside labeling.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to laboratory maintaining sample integrity.
• Explains procedures to patients, addressing concerns for a positive experience.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace.
• Documents patient and specimen information in laboratory system.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and meets clinical needs.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues, including recollection when needed.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Follows safety requirements and laboratory procedures to ensure compliance.
• Performs other duties and maintains regular attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
