Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Patient Care Technician to support a decentralized, patient-centered approach under RN supervision. You will measure and document vital signs, identify patient concerns, and assist with patient transfers and daily care in a collaborative team environment.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of patient care experience, with BLS certification preferred/required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• At least 1 year of patient care work experience in a health care facility or CNA preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire and to maintain ongoing certification.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Assist patients with everyday needs (hygiene, restroom, grooming).
• Monitor vital signs and report patient condition.
• Assist nursing staff with basic treatments.
• Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies and linen.
• Provide emotional support to patients.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor.
• Empty drains, ostomies, foley bags.
• Perform blood sugar checks.
• Assist with other duties assigned by department leader.
