Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support a decentralized, patient-centered approach under a Registered Nurse. The PCT will measure and document vital signs, assist with daily activities, and help relocate patients for comfort and treatment.

Ideal candidates will have empathy, patience, and strong communication. A high school diploma or GED is required; BLS certification is required on hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of patient care work experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Assist patients with everyday needs (hygiene, restroom, grooming).
• Monitor vital signs or EKG signals and patient condition.
• Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments.
• Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies and clean linen.
• Assist patients with other issues or needs as they arise.
• Provide appropriate emotional support to patients.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor.
• Empty drains, ostomies, and foley bags.
• Perform blood sugar checks.
• Assist with other duties assigned by the department leader.
