Job summary

The Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff across outpatient, inpatient, or emergency care patients in various states of illness. The role emphasizes patient care, observation, and support within a demanding hospital environment.

The position includes progression from GS-03 to GS-05 with supervision, depending on experience and education, and requires U.S. citizenship per VA policy.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship required by VA policy.
Six (6) months of general experience or one year of education above high school with nursing-related courses, or completion of a related training program.
May be eligible under Grandfathering Provision for current VA employees in this occupation.

Responsibilities

Assist licensed nursing staff in patient care across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings.
Attend to patients' physical and emotional needs, observe conditions, and report deviations.
Utilize basic nursing tools and equipment to support care plans as directed by RNs or LPNs.
Precept and train new Nursing Assistants as needed in a hospital setting.
