Job summary

UNC Health Care's Johnston Health campus in Smithfield, NC, is seeking a Nursing Assistant I to join the SECU Hospice House team. You will provide routine direct and indirect patient care under supervision, with emphasis on compassionate support and safety.

The role offers 24 hours per week, day schedule, onsite work, and pay ranging from $18.00 to $24.66 per hour. Qualified applicants should have BLS and NC Nursing Assistant I licensure; English fluency and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Prefer six (6) months of nursing assistant experience
• Fluent in verbal and written English language and able to develop basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procurement of equipment during emergencies.
• In psychiatric settings, aid patients in reality orientation, participate in behaviour modification plans/therapy, provide informal support therapy, de-escalate potential aggression, assist in physical management, facilitate age-appropriate play, and monitor therapeutic milieu activities to meet emotional and safety needs.
• Observe, collect, and document patient information and promptly report significant changes to a RN or physician.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care/treatments per plan of care including vital signs, measurements, specimen collection, skin prep, catheter care, glucose checks, wound care, ROM, postural drainage, and supportive interactions.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with ambulation.
• Provide indirect care including cleaning, restocking supplies, transporting, orienting new staff, and some routine clerical tasks.
• Reinforce routine teaching and distribute patient education materials.
