Job summary

Wood County Norwood Health Center in Wisconsin is seeking a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to support residents with daily care and therapeutic activities. You will work with psychiatrists, nurses, and other staff to implement treatment plans, monitor patients, and maintain a safe environment.

You will assist with ADLs, document vital signs, participate in care planning, and help de-escalate crises using least-restrictive methods.

Qualifications

• Background in mental health field preferred.
• Must intervene with agitated patients therapeutically.
• Must write legibly and communicate effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assess vital signs or report unusual findings; document accurately.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living and encourage independence.
• Transfer residents as specified in care plans; report changes to nurse.
• Perform treatments as ordered and document results, report anomalies.
• Contribute to planning and carrying out treatment and care plans; provide 1:1 interactions.
• Respond to acting out or safety concerns using least restrictive methods; assist with restraints if needed.
• Report all incidents promptly to supervisor.
• Ensure safe environment; conduct body checks and supervise patients at risk; maintain universal precautions.
• Model hygiene and respectful interactions; provide basic care and support to residents.
• Support transportation for appointments and activities; ensure supervision when away from facility.
• Assist in safety planning and discharge readiness as part of rehabilitative care.
• Supervise dining room and assist with meal times; participate in group activities.
• Adhere to facility policies; maintain safety with residents.
