Job summary

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, NJ is seeking a Mental Health Assistant to support patient care on a busy unit. You will help with daily living activities, monitor vitals, and document intake/output under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Qualifications

• Heart Saver/CPR certification required.
• Must pass Nursing Attendant test.
• Strong understanding of OPS regulatory requirements.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Must be computer literate.
• Speaks, reads and writes English as required by the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care with attention to age-appropriate needs.
• Take and record TPR and report deviations to nurse.
• Obtain specimens as assigned (urine, stool, sputum).
• Weigh patients and record weight.
• Assist with activities of daily living and infection control.
• Record intake/output and perform treatments as assigned.
• Communicate needs to Charge Nurse/Primary Nurse.
• Orient patients and build rapport with patients and families.
• Assist in patient management and de-escalation under RN direction.
• Conduct admission/unit searches and maintain unit cleanliness.
• Prepare bedside units for new admissions and stock accordingly.
• Ensure safe unit environment and report issues to RN.
• Transport patients to designated areas and assist with activities.
