Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Completion of Medical Assistant program or certification.
• BLS certification required from a recognized provider.
• Ability to take accurate patient vital signs.
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes.
• Proficient with basic computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Familiarity with medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, organizing patient flow.
• Escorts patients to exam rooms; observes and reports patient status and reactions.
• Assists providers with procedures and collects specimens as needed.
• Collects patient history including medications and allergies.
• Documents in the EMR and relays instructions to patient/family.
• Answers patient calls and messages; acts as liaison between patient and provider.
• Performs clerical duties such as scheduling and handling medical records.
• Collects and handles lab specimens following safety guidelines.
• Coordinates referrals using electronic referrals process.
