Job summary

Gurwin Healthcare System in Commack, NY, is seeking part-time Licensed Practical Nurses to join our geriatric care team. Shifts include early, mid, and overnight hours with every-other weekend scheduling.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with NYS license.
• Demonstrates interest in geriatric patient needs and geriatric nursing principles.
• Ability to establish effective interpersonal relations with patients, staff and families.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Education in LTC/Subacute to ensure competency on all units.

Responsibilities

• Participates in nursing care of patients under the supervision of an RN.
• Contributes to patient care plans for geriatric patients.
• Administers patient care and may assume team leader or charge duties as needed.
• Directs and supervises non-professional staff.
• Observes, records and reports patient data per policy.
• Participates in unit nursing and inter-disciplinary team activities.
• Administers medications and nursing procedures per policy.
• Attends in-service programs and departmental committees.
• Performs related duties as directed, including potential emergency tasks.
