Job summary

Saint Luke’s Home in Springfield, MA is seeking a part-time cook to prepare foods for patients, employees, and visitors per recipes and menus. You will measure ingredients, operate kitchen equipment, and ensure proper temperatures and timely service.

The role requires basic culinary training or a high school diploma with related experience, physical stamina, and the ability to follow instructions in a supportive health-care setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and up to one year of basic culinary training; 1–2 years related experience.
• No certification or licensure required.
• Ability to analyze data to ensure quality and safety.
• Ability to understand and follow simple written/verbal instructions.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and stand up to two hours.

Responsibilities

• Receive orders for items to be cooked and obtain necessary food items from storage.
• Measure, weigh and combine ingredients according to recipes.
• Cook regular and diet menu items per recipes.
• Taste and adjust seasoning for flavor and texture.
• Ensure timely preparation and proper serving temperatures.
• Monitor food usage to avoid shortages or surpluses.
• Operate ovens, grills, mixers, blenders and other equipment.
• Maintain records of supplies and ingredients used.
• Transport food to prep/serving areas and store properly.
• In absence of the Food Service Director, assume dietary department duties.
• Organize and supervise diet aides.
