Job summary

The Salvation Army Syracuse Area is hiring a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Syracuse, NY to provide hands-on support for participants in daily living, personal care, meals, activities, and community outings. This role promotes independence, dignity, safety, and engagement according to individual care plans.

The DSP helps participants build skills, gain confidence, and live more independently, while contributing to a supportive, inclusive program environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or technical school.
• One year of DSP or related Experience
• Valid Driver’s License that meet’s The Salvation Army’s insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a clean, safe, and organized program environment for participants and daily activities.
• Support and encourage participants in program activities, recreational events, and community outings based on their individual needs, interests, and abilities.
• Monitor participants and promptly report changes in condition, accidents, incidents, or other concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Provide assistance with personal care, including bathing, toileting, mobility, transfers, positioning, and the use of mobility equipment, according to individual care plans.
• Assist participants with meals and snacks, including preparation, feeding, dietary restrictions, hydration, and after‑meal care.
• Complete accurate daily progress notes and other required program documentation.
• Assist with planning activities and special events and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
