Job summary

The Medical Assistant position in Alabama is seeking a qualified professional to support clinical operations. You will interview patients, record vital signs, prepare exam rooms, and assist providers with procedures.

Duties include performing EKGs, urinalysis, tests, injections, and data entry into EMR; maintain patient safety and confidentiality; assist with mobility and transport within the clinic.

Qualifications

• Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant active certificate, or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
• Knowledge of Word Processing software; Internet software, EMR systems (Athena preferred), and Database software.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; lift up to 30 pounds; assist patients up to 300 pounds; exposure to bodily fluids; adherence to safety/hygiene protocols.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients, accurately takes vital signs such as manual BP, pulse rate, temperature, 02 level, weight and height, and properly records information into EMR.
• Prepares exam rooms for examination and stocking them.
• Hands instruments and materials to provider as directed for procedures.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
• Performs EKGs, urinalysis, strep test, flu test, covid test, mono test, pregnancy test, checks patients A1C, etc.
• Gives injections per providers orders (intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous).
• Handles portal messages from patients, refill medications, order additional labs or imaging as needed, complete prior authorizations, complete precertification for imaging, etc.
• Must have effective communication skills and instruct patients and/or their family as directed by the provider.
• Call patients to discuss results as directed by the provider while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Keys data into EMR to maintain office and patient records.
• May be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed or as directed by supervision (i.e., assist with patient check-in).
• Perform blood draws competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
• Medical Assistants are responsible for assisting patients with mobility and transport needs within the clinical setting.
