Job summary

San Francisco SPCA is seeking a part-time Animal and Client Care Associate to assist with the adoption process and client support. The role emphasizes exceptional customer service, bilingual communication (Mandarin/Cantonese), and guidance on medical, behavioral, and training topics to help clients meet their new companions.

The position requires weekend availability and a commitment to animal welfare, with benefits available for those eligible.

Qualifications

• Mandarin or Cantonese fluency is required.
• Client service experience is essential.
• Comfortable handling dogs/cats of all sizes and breeds.
• Knowledge of animal psychology/science is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Provides compassionate and responsive service to clients and their animals, including communicating with Cantonese-speaking clients when needed to facilitate appointments, answer questions, provide information, and support a positive client experience.
• Actively practice and promote the Society’s mission
• Advocate for shelter residents and the humane treatment of all animals
• Provide quality customer service to clients, volunteers, and staff
• Facilitate client/animal interactions during adoption appointments
• Interpret and relay medical evaluations and behavioral assessments of dogs and cats
• Promote the use of the SF SPCA Hospital
• Work cooperatively with all volunteers, recognizing the talent and commitment they bring to the organization
• Actively promote donation and giving opportunities as appropriate
• Promote and participate in Society programs, services, and special events
• Maintain positive relationships with coworkers
• Participate in staff meetings and stay up to date on departmental and organization-wide trainings
• Practice discretion with confidential information
• Respond to emails and phone calls promptly and courteously
• Maintain appropriate hygiene and wear the staff uniform at all times
• Follow established cleaning and disease prevention protocols to clean, disinfect and maintain shelter condos, kennels, cages, and general areas
• Monitor and track the health and behavior of the animals and immediately report abnormalities, progress, or needs
• Ensure all shelter animals are properly housed and cared for within the guidelines of the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare, and that only Fear Free and positive reinforcement training methods are employed
• Complete necessary forms and data entry to process adoptions of animals
• Complete timely data entry tasks, and ensure data integrity, using both paper and computer-based filing systems
