Job summary

Petco is seeking a Companion Animal Specialist to provide expert animal care and customer service in our Pet Care Center. You will ensure the health and safety of companion animals and aquatic life, educate customers, and support sales and inventory integrity in a fast-paced retail setting.

The role requires at least 1 year of animal care experience, a Pet Care Certification, and strong communication and organizational skills. Flexible hours and a team-focused environment are offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience working with or caring for companion animals and aquatic life.
• Strong knowledge of animal care, husbandry, and maintenance practices.
• Demonstrated ability to educate others and communicate effectively.
• Strong customer service mindset with selling behaviors.
• Basic business, math, and inventory management skills.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Completion and ongoing maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification Program required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and proper care of all companion animals and aquatic life.
• Complete hourly animal health checks, wellness documentation, maintenance logs, and incident reports.
• Maintain professional habitats and ensure cleanliness of habitats and tanks.
• Educate customers and PCC partners on animal care standards.
• Support sales, merchandising, and inventory execution with animal-care knowledge.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.
