Job summary

A leading community support organization in California is seeking a Companion to provide social and recreational support to individuals in their homes and communities. Pay Rate

Up to $20.50 per hour commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

• The Companion provides social and recreational support to the consumer in their home, neighborhood, and community.
• Provides consumer with companionship and friendship.
• Assists in the development and expansion of consumer participation in leisure activities.
• Ensures consumer integration into community activities, events and services.
• Assures a safe environment, provides protective supervision and advocacy.
• Assists with the development of a circle of support, builds and maintains relationships with family, friends and neighbors.
• Provides daily living skills training and support, assists consumer in maintaining positive health and home environment.
• Provides transportation to consumer, including public transportation, own car or as needed.
• Responsible for communicating all consumer related information to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
• Acts as a mandated abuse reporter.
• May perform other duties as assigned to assure quality services to the consumer.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of good health practices and the ability to support a positive environment.
• Knowledge of community resources and activities within the home community.
• Ability to work independently.
• Demonstrates good judgment and decision‑making skills.
• Responds proactively in emergency situations.
• CPR and First aid certified (training provided).

Minimum Qualifications

The Companion should possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, plus related experience working with people with disabilities in a rehabilitation environment, or an approved combination of experience and education. Possession of a valid California driver's license, a clear driving record, and auto insurance are required. Completion and clearance of fingerprints for a DOJ criminal background check is required.

Travel in the consumer’s home neighborhood, providing physical and emotional support to the consumer in community‑based activities. Exposure to outdoor weather, dust and pollens. In the consumer’s home, performing personal care tasks, use of typical home appliances and special assistive equipment as needed by the supported consumer.
