Job summary

Hope Services is seeking a compassionate Companion to assist adults with developmental disabilities in homes and communities across Silicon Valley. You will work in a small team, providing social and recreational support, and helping clients engage in meaningful activities both in their neighborhoods and in the broader community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent plus related experience with people with disabilities.
• Valid California driver's license with clean driving record and auto insurance.
• Completion and clearance of fingerprints for DOJ background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide social and recreational support to consumers in their home, neighborhood and community settings.
• Provide companionship and friendship.
• Assist in development and expansion of consumer participation in leisure activities.
• Ensure consumer integration into community activities, events and services.
• Provide a safe environment, protective supervision and advocacy.
• Assist with building and maintaining a circle of support with family and neighbors.
• Provide daily living skills training and support, assisting consumers in maintaining health and home.
• Provide transportation to consumers using public transportation, own car or as needed.
• Communicate all consumer-related information to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
• Act as a mandated abuse reporter.
• May perform other duties as assigned to assure quality services.

*Pay Rate: Up to $20.50 per hour commensurate with experience and qualifications

Responsibilities of the Companion role:

• The Companion provides social and recreational support to consumer in their home, neighborhood and home community.
• Provides consumer with companionship and friendship.
• Assists in the development and expansion of consumer participation in leisure activities.
• Ensures consumers integration into community activities, events and services.

• Provides transportation to consumer including public transportation, own car or as needed.

• Acts as a mandated abuse reporter.
• May perform other duties as assigned to assure quality services to the consumer.

Minimum Qualifications of the Companion role:

The Companion should possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, plus related experience working with people with disabilities in a rehabilitation environment, or approved combination of experience and education. Possession of valid California driver's license, clear driving record, and auto insurance are required. Completion and clearance of fingerprints for DOJ criminal background check,

Travel in the consumers home neighborhood, providing physical and emotional support to the consumer in community based activities. Exposure to outdoor weather, dust and pollens. In the consumer's home, performing personal care tasks, use of typical home appliances and special assistive equipment as needed by the supported consumer.
