Job summary

Carolina CAT is seeking a Second Shift technician to troubleshoot, repair, and service construction equipment. You will disassemble and reassemble components, use diagnostic tools, and perform preventive maintenance on heavy machinery.

The role requires physical strength to lift up to 70 pounds, the ability to read technical manuals, and basic keyboarding. On-site work with potential exposure to heavy equipment and moving parts.

Qualifications

• Basic keyboarding skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test parts/equipment on construction equipment.
• Disassemble/reassemble parts, clean with cleaners, use test equipment and powered tools.
• Climb onto/under vehicles to access parts.
• Move items with hoists, forklifts, or cranes and reassemble for use.
• Perform preventive maintenance, change oil, replace filters and belts.
• Weld frames/wear parts and grind welds smooth.
• Operate equipment to reprogram controllers.

Summary

The primary function of this position is to troubleshoot, remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment on construction equipment.

Essential Functions

• Uses miscellaneous resources and computers to reference parts, get information about parts & enter data into record systems.
• Uses tools to disassemble/reassemble parts or equipment; cleans parts with rags, cleaners, power washer; uses test equipment to make diagnostic checks; and controls powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
• Climbs up onto, under, & into vehicles to gain access to all parts of vehicle.
• Uses overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts & other aides to move items off vehicle (tracks, idler wheels, blades, etc.) & then to move parts to locations for disassembly, repair, then back to the vehicle for reassembly.
• Does inspections, preventative maintenance, changes oil, replaces filters, belts, coolants, hoses, may drain/clean/refill fuel systems.
• Uses welders to weld frames, wear strips then use power grinders to grind welds smooth.
• Lifts/carries and positions ram used to remove idlers, unbolt idlers, remove them with overhead crane.
• Uses power washers & spray paint equipment to clean & paint vehicle.
• Uses instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma/certificate or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of related experience.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand the local language, reads and comprehends technical data/service manuals and writes legibly.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 70 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time, perform repetitive bending tasks and achieve required torque specifications per manufacturer repair procedures.

Basic keyboarding skills.
