ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Today, CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City, including early childhood education, school-age care, youth services, workforce development, community services, and senior services. In 2017, CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY, its organization-wide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. PROGRAM SUMMARY

Through funding from the NYC Council & New York Presbyterian, the Older Adult Mental Health Program (OAMH) aims to provide mental health support for older adults in lower income and immigrant populations.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Brooklyn Community Services, the full-time temporary OAMH Community Wellness Coordinator will provide workshops and info-sessions on topics related to mental health. The ideal Coordinator will also be able to provide mental health screenings, individual counseling, benefits support, and mental health referrals to older adults aged 55+. This role is a potential temp-to-perm opportunity pending continuation of funding.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct assessments and mental health screenings for community members 55+ (PHQ-9, MSSI-SA, and GAD-7), following up as needed on a case-by-case basis
  • Address individual needs and provide referrals and resources for individuals seeking benefits support that can impact mental health
  • Design and deliver workshops and information sessions with partner organizations for individuals in multiple languages, including English, Mandarin and/or Cantonese
  • Support program by providing individual counseling as well as group counseling sessions
  • Develop and implement community events centered around mental health that are culturally and linguistically sensitive
  • Serve as an advocate for community members and advocate for access to mental health services
  • Maintain case records, data, and service documentation on individuals as required by Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and other regulatory bodies
  • Provide individual check-ins for community members through home visits or phone calls
  • Other duties may be assigned by the program supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Valid NYS LMSW required, with preferred experience working with older adults.
  • Advanced Degrees in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or other related counseling/mental health degree preferred.
  • Experience working in and with immigrant communities.
  • Experience working in and with I/DD populations is preferred, but not required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Must be fluent in English and Mandarin and/or Cantonese.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and productively.
  • Comfortable with taking the lead on educating others on mental health-related topics.
  • Effectively works with internal staff and outside community partners, able to develop strong ties with the community, and demonstrate ability to work efficiently in a team.
  • Working knowledge of social media and communications platforms (WeChat, Facebook, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW

  • $38.46 - $43.95 per hour; 35 hours per week from October 2024 to August 2025 with opportunity for extension pending continuation of funding
