Job summary

BRC in New York is seeking a Community Technician to provide a steady, compassionate presence for individuals experiencing homelessness. This full-time, on-site role supports residents in moments of crisis, maintains a safe living environment, and uses trauma-informed approaches to de-escalate tense situations.

Responsibilities include monitoring, responding to safety concerns, documenting incidents, assisting with meals and escorts, supporting fire safety, and participating in certifications.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles and de-escalation techniques.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications (First Aid/CPR, Narcan, etc.).

Full-Time | 37.5 hours/week | 24/7 Program | Mandatory Overtime

At BRC, every shift matters. As a Community Technician, you’re a consistent, trusted presence for individuals experiencing homelessness—often supporting people in moments of crisis, uncertainty, or transition.

This hands-on, frontline role is ideal for those interested in social work, human services, public health, or emergency response. No prior shelter experience required—just strong judgment, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

What You’ll Do

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds


• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques
