Job description

Do you enjoy exploring the outdoors and going on adventures? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are recruiting for a Support Worker to join our community team in Wareham, to support Josh. To be considered for this role, you would need to have a Full UK driving licence.

Please note: Autism Unlimited does not provide visa sponsorship

The role

Josh is in his early 30s and lives in his own home in Wareham. His preferred method of communication is PECS boards, which support him in making choices and decisions throughout his day.

He’s always up for an adventure, whether it’s a trip to the Bovington Tank Museum, a visit to the seaside town of Swanage, or a mini break to Blackpool with his mum and support staff. Josh loves to get out and about.

Josh also loves his music – Abba and Queen tribute bands are his favourites!

When the weather calls for staying indoors, you’ll often find Josh enjoying a Disney film with his support team or reading a book.

Hours of work

Shifts are completed on a two-week rolling rota, which would include a mixture of shifts, Monday – Sunday, with hours ranging between 7am – 10pm.

You would be required to work alternate weekends and sleep-ins (sleep-ins come with an additional payment).

At the heart of everything we do is to promote the independence of the person we support. Ensuring we have a relaxed, empathetic, and encouraging team helps us achieve this.

A day in the life of a Support Worker would include:

  • Maintaining consistent and accurate records regarding care plans, finances, appointments, and medication
  • Sharing your skills and life knowledge with the people we support to enable good life skills and independence when living in the community
  • Following the support plan for each person we support to enable the person to feel comfortable and happy, adapting this as required based on changes in behaviour
  • Providing some elements of personal care, including personal hygiene prompts, helping with bathing and washing, and medication management
  • Employee Referral Scheme – you can earn £400 for each person you successfully refer!
  • 12-week induction programme consisting of in-house training, e-learning, shadowing, coaching, and mentoring
  • The opportunity to complete an accredited qualification once you’ve passed your probation period
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Up to 33 days annual leave pro-rata (including bank holidays)
  • Benefits portal which offers discounts at shops, restaurants, and days out, along with a cashback healthcare plan for optical and dental care
  • A 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme providing support on issues like money management, family, and legal matters
  • A network of Mental Health First Aiders to support your mental health needs
