Job summary

The City of Lenexa, Kansas is seeking a Community Standards Officer I or II to join the Community Development team. The role involves enforcing city Codes, conducting field inspections, and coordinating with the Legal Department.

The position is 40 hours per week with a mix of field and office work. Ideal candidates will have enforcement or compliance experience, residential construction knowledge, and the ability to communicate requirements clearly while handling disputes tactfully, including

Qualifications

• Experience in enforcement or compliance and knowledge of Lenexa geography.
• General residential construction knowledge.
• Ability to clearly explain City requirements and address disputes with tact.
• Comfort working with local law enforcement and in courtroom settings.
• Enjoys field inspections and office work.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily field inspections to investigate complaints and perform proactive inspections.
• Track inspection details, photos, and conversations through the provided software.
• Complete exterior rental inspections of single-family and multi-family properties.
• Handle incoming calls, emails, and service request concerns related to community standards.
• Work with Legal Department on basic code cases and prosecutions when necessary.
• Issue abatement work orders and perform follow-up inspections.
• Perform massage establishment inspections per City code.
• Drive City or personal vehicle to perform essential functions.
