Job summary

City of Lenexa is seeking a Community Standards Officer I or II to join the Community Development team. The role involves 40 hours per week, inspecting properties, addressing complaints, and coordinating with law enforcement and the Legal Department.

The position emphasizes field inspections and office work to ensure compliance with city codes. Candidates should have enforcement or related public contact experience, knowledge of residential construction, and the ability to communicate

Qualifications

• Experience in enforcement or a closely related public contact position.
• General residential construction knowledge.
• Ability to clearly explain City requirements and address disputes with tact.
• Comfort working with local law enforcement and in courtroom settings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily field inspections to investigate complaints and perform proactive inspections; contact residents and business owners.
• Track inspection details, photos, and conversations using provided software.
• Complete exterior rental inspections of single-family and multi-family properties.
• Handle incoming calls, emails and service requests related to community standards.
• Process basic code cases through prosecution in partnership with the Legal Department.
