Job summary

The Arc Rockland in Valley Cottage, NY, is recruiting a Community Specialist II for full-time roles at multiple nearby locations. Pay is $20.66/hour with potential sign-on bonuses up to $1,000.

Responsibilities include teaching functional skills, transportation training, and documentation management. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a year of relevant experience, a valid driver’s license, and AMAP certification by end of probation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Exam required; Two years of college a plus.
  • One year of experience relevant to assigned location.
  • Familiarity with supervision of developmentally disabled in community settings.
  • Write monthly notes and complete daily documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license and meet driving standards.
  • AMAP certification required by end of probation/orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation and travel training toward independence.
  • Match individuals with community training experiences aligned to outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation including data collection and notes.
  • Administer medications after AMAP training.
  • Drive agency vehicles for transportation as required.
  • Liaise with community organizations and other professionals.
  • Assess learning needs and address problems, reporting incidents promptly.
  • Ensure services meet the interests and desires of each person.
  • Prepare required paperwork in a timely manner.

Locations Available: Valley Cottage, Nyack, New City, Orangeburg

Pay rate: $20.66 per hour

Full time and part-time opportunities available

Up to $1000 in sign-on bonuses available- Earn $500 after 6 months of full-time employment and an additional $500 after 9 months of full-time employment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach people receiving supports functional skills as determined by each individual assessment. This may include but is not limited to work readiness skills, behavior management, independent living and/or other skill development.
  • Provide transportation and travel training skills to the people receiving supports leading toward independence.
  • Determine aptitudes, interests and preferences and match people with community training experiences related to their desired outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain all documentation pertaining to the people supported including daily data collection and monthly notes, as assigned. May include other required documentation for ACCES-VR, OPWDD, etc. depending upon assignment
  • dminister prescribed medications to people receiving supports after successful completion of AMAP medication administration course.
  • Drive Agency vehicles for transportation of people receiving supports as required (pick-up, drop-off, to and from worksites, community outings, hospital for treatment, etc.)
  • Act as liaison with other community organizations.
  • Assess and identify learning and training needs of people.
  • Address any problems that may be occurring and report incidents in a timely manner as required.
  • Ensure that services are delivered in a manner that is responsive to interests and desires of each person.
  • Prepare required paperwork in a timely manner.

Requirements include:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Exam required; Two years of college a plus.
  • One year of experience relevant to assigned location.
  • Familiarity with principles and techniques used in the supervision of the developmentally disabled in community settings.
  • Write monthly notes and complete daily documentation.
  • Interact with parents, guardians and other professionals regarding individual plans and progress.
  • Valid driver’s license and meet Agency’s driving standards.
  • Become certified as an Approved Medical Administration Personnel (AMAP) prior to the end of the probation/orientation period.
  • Based on assignments, availability and willingness to work varied work schedules and work
