Job summary

The Arc Oneida-Lewis invites you to join as a Community Specialist in our Day Services Department in Clinton, NY. You will assist in implementing ISP/Day Habilitation Plans and support daily living and community integration for individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities include supervising participants, transporting them to community activities, promoting independence, and assisting with daily living tasks. A driver license and capacity to lift or reposition individuals are required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in human services or related field with experience or education in the field.
  • High school diploma or GED with 1 year of experience in working with persons with developmental disabilities, education setting, or health care facility.
  • Must be able to transfer and position individuals and manipulate equipment including wheelchairs.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure supervision of assigned individuals at all times.
  • Provide transportation for community outings following policy for agency vehicles.
  • Promote person-driven choices, independence, inclusion and productivity.
  • Assist with activities of daily living as needed (toileting, eating, ambulation, lifting).

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Assists in the implementation of the person's ISP/Day Habilitation Plan by planning, providing and documenting community integration experiences utilizing as many community based resources and supports as appropriate to the plan; assists in providing direct care, training and supervision to the extent required.

Oneida County - Clinton

Responsibilities:
  • Is responsible for ensuring supervision of assigned individuals at all times
  • Provide transportation for outings within the community, following established policies and procedures regarding the use of agency vehicles
  • To promote and follow person driven choices in independence, individualization, inclusion and productivity and the "Five Governing Principles" when working with the people throughout the day
  • Provide the extent of assistance necessary with activities of daily living, i.e. toileting, eating, ambulation and lifting as necessary.
Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and 1 year of experience in working with persons with developmental disabilities, or in an educational setting, or in a health care facility.
