Qualifications

  • One year of general office clerical experience; police department experience desirable.
  • CPR and First Aid certificates required or obtainable within six months of hire; NCIC Telecommunication Certificate required within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and investigate traffic collisions or incidents within City jurisdiction.
  • Write police reports and testify in court as needed.
  • Collect and store evidence and assist with non-emergency field duties.
  • Perform traffic control and enforce parking violations within jurisdiction.
  • Assist the public in non-hazardous situations and maintain accurate records.

As a Community Services Officer I (Report Taker), you’ll play a key role in supporting the Pomona Police Department by assisting with traffic collisions, preparing detailed reports, collecting evidence, and providing excellent service to the public. The City of Pomona currently has a Community Services Officer I – Report Taker vacancy for a qualified individual eager to contribute to a positive, community-oriented team. Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of administrative and non-emergency field duties. Candidates must be available to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

As staffing needs evolve, this flexible classification may also support other areas of the Police Department, such as Community Crime Prevention, Front Desk Operations, Subpoena Service, Dispatch Call Taker, Court Filing, Uniforms and Equipment, and Real Time Crime Center. The eligibility list established through this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in these or other assignments within this classification.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency. Additional course work in business practices is desirable.
  • One year of responsible general office clerical work experience. Prior police department experience is desirable.
License or Certificate
  • Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license.
  • Possession of, or must obtain within six months of hire, a NCIC Telecommunication Certificate.
  • Possession of, or must obtain within six months of hire, CPR and First Aid Certificates.
  • A typing certificate indicating a typing speed of at least 40 net words per minute must be attached to your job application. Emailed and faxed typing certificates will not be accepted.

Report Taker Assignment
  • Respond to and investigate traffic collisions or other incidents occurring within City jurisdiction.
  • Write police reports.
  • Testify in court.
  • Collect and store evidence.
  • Perform traffic control.
  • Enforce parking violations.
  • Mark, store, or impound abandoned vehicles as authorized by law.
  • Assist the public in non-hazardous situations.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Assist Police Officers as required or directed.
  • Summon appropriate assistance for those events beyond the scope of position.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs.; exposure to noise, outdoors, and traffic hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for shift work, irregular work schedule, on-call, and stand-by.

A typing certificate demonstrating a speed of at least 40 net words per minute must be attached to your job application and must meet the City of Pomona’s requirements. Emailed or faxed typing certificates will not be accepted.

Before employment, applicants must successfully complete an interview with the Police Chief or the Chief’s designee and a background investigation. Failure to receive a recommendation for hire during any phase of the selection process will result in disqualification.
