About The Position

THIS POSITION WILL BE ASSIGNED TO THE PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT ONLY.

Position Details: THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION, AND MAY REQUIRE WORKING VARIOUS HOURS INCLUDING DAYS, NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS.

Under general supervision in a non-sworn capacity, performs duties related to law enforcement; performs related duties as required.

Class Characteristics

Performs duties in specific assigned areas related to law enforcement, without the authority of a sworn police officer.

Supervision

Works under the supervision of the Police Sergeant, Field Supervisor, or higher.

Does not supervise others.

Essential Functions
  • Assist in response to non-hazardous police calls; interview principals and witnesses; collect and preserve evidence; perform crime scene fingerprinting; record data; take photographs; prepare crime reports.
  • Provide traffic control at accident scenes, fires, and other areas; take minor traffic accident reports.
  • Patrol park grounds and buildings; prevent or report violations like vandalism; ensure parks are cleared at closing.
  • Enforce parking regulations; handle abandoned vehicles.
  • Conduct residential inspections for yard sale permits and commercial inspections for business licenses.
  • Assist in crime prevention programs and community events.
  • Greet visitors at the police front desk; document information and prepare reports.
  • Assist in searching, booking, and transporting female prisoners when assigned as a Matron.
  • Support police officers in various duties including monitoring and transport.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent; valid California Class C driver's license with proof of insurance; good driving record; bilingual skills in English/Spanish are highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic office practices, computer applications, and customer service techniques.

Ability to interpret policies, follow directions, operate communication equipment, record facts accurately, exercise sound judgment, communicate effectively, and establish cooperative relationships.

Skill in operating office equipment and typing at least 25 words per minute.

Other Important Information

Participation in the DMV Pull Notice System is required.

Physical demands include walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Work environment varies from quiet office to outdoor conditions.
