The Jewish Federation Bay Area is seeking a Community Security Advisor to safeguard Jewish organizations across Northern California. You will deliver emergency response training, conduct security assessments, and build partnerships with law enforcement to strengthen safety and resilience.

Hybrid role with in-office Tue-Thu and travel across Northern California; after-hours response to incidents may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required and at least 5+ years in law enforcement, emergency services, military, or counter-terrorism.
• Experience delivering trainings on incident response, active threat response, and emergency protocols.
• Proven ability to conduct security assessments and implement improvements.
• Familiarity with ICS/NIMS concepts and working with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel across Northern California and respond after hours.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Community Security Program is a regional initiative safeguarding the physical, psychological, and emotional security of Jewish schools, synagogues, and organizations. The program delivers security assessments, threat advisories, emergency preparedness training, law enforcement coordination, and security grant support. Partnering with JCRC, Jewish California, and the ADL, the program advances a unified strategy to build community resilience and counter antisemitism.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Community Security Advisor reports to the Senior Manager, Community Security, and serves as the primary security expert and point of contact for Jewish organizations across Northern California. This role strengthens community-wide safety and resilience by delivering emergency response training, conducting security assessments, and building strong partnerships with law enforcement. The Community Security Advisor is a critical link between centralized security expertise and the day-to-day preparedness of individual organizations.

This is a hybrid role, typically in-office Tuesday through Thursday, with travel throughout Northern California and as needed after-hours response to incidents during the evenings and weekends as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Training & Emergency Preparedness

• Conducts training workshops for Jewish organizations throughout the year, as needed, covering incident response, active threat response, first aid, "STOP the BLEED", and emergency protocols.

Security Assessments & Physical Security Consultation

• Conducts on-site security assessments at partner organizations across the Community Security Program's Northern California catchment area, applying industry best practices.
• Provides consultation and expertise on security systems, physical security improvements, and capital projects underway within the Jewish community.
• Identifies site-specific vulnerabilities and recommends solutions, including physical security upgrades, facility hardening measures, and potential vendors to carry out improvements.

Institutional Resilience & Emergency Planning

• Assists organizations in developing and reviewing emergency operations plans, security protocols, and communication procedures to build institutional resilience.
• Partners with professional staff, clergy, and lay leadership to systematically identify, prioritize, and implement security enhancements, while establishing and disseminating best practices for security and emergency protocols.

Law Enforcement & Government Partnerships

• Builds and sustains collaborative partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and relevant government bodies.
• Leverages these relationships to enable rapid resolution of incidents and threats impacting the Jewish community, including harassment, assaults, threatening communications, and property crimes.

Strategic Program Contribution

• Contributes to shaping the strategic direction of the Community Security program by leveraging on-ground experience to identify and advance program opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Experience conducting trainings such as incident response, active threat response, first aid, "STOP the BLEED", emergency protocols and procedures
• Track record performing security assessments and implementing solutions
• Experience with Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS) concepts, terminology, and response structure
• Proven experience supporting a large scale client base and managing multiple complex projects
• Experience working closely with diverse stakeholders at all levels to build alignment, influence outcomes, and drive successful delivery
• A collaborative professional who effectively engages with diverse perspectives related to security
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for regular travel across Northern California.
• Ability to respond to after-hours/weekend incidents
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; Salesforce and Monday.com a plus

PREFERED

• Prior law enforcement or military experience that demonstrates leadership and experience training diverse groups
• Familiarity with dynamics of Jewish communities and institutions is strongly preferred
• Professional certifications: P.O.S.T, CCTP, CCP, First Aid/CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed Instructor, or similar

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years of experience in law enforcement, emergency services, military or counter-terrorism work
