Reed College Community Safety Staff

Reed College Community Safety Staff are part of the Office of Student Life and a team that supports student success and the college's mission. The Office of Community Safety provides campus safety and security services, including emergency preparedness, assisting students, responding to medical and mental health emergencies, reacting to fire and other alarms, and more. Our responsibilities begin with connecting with students, staff, and faculty as community partners. While we receive traditional security training, we emphasize service and collaboration within the college community. Learn more about our Community Safety staff on our website.

Position Details

We are currently hiring for one full-time position, scheduled for 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is from 9 pm to 7 am, four days per week, which may include weekend shifts. Flexibility to work outside of scheduled shifts may be required. All new hires undergo a two-month Field Training Evaluation Program and ongoing in-service training. Compensation

Starting pay is $21.81 per hour, plus a $1.25 per hour overnight shift differential.

Responsibilities
  • Assess campus environment for safety hazards
  • Respond to medical, fire, and other emergencies, including alarms from nuclear reactors
  • Handle campus incidents and provide crisis intervention
  • Engage with students and staff in conversations about safety
  • Manage calls on the college switchboard and prioritize emergency and non-emergency communications
Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license required; comfortable driving in emergencies
  • Experience in customer service and overnight shifts preferred
  • Willingness to obtain DPSST certification (training provided)
