Job summary

Baptist Health is seeking a PRN Community/Retail Pharmacy Technician Float to support the pharmacy team across Louisville, New Albany, IN and LaGrange. The role centers on patient service, dispensing, and coordination of home delivery under pharmacist supervision.

Expect interactions with patients and healthcare staff, with responsibilities spanning prescription filling, order entry, inventory, and occasional nonsterile compounding. Travel to locations as needed is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Previous retail pharmacy experience preferred.
• Registration with Kentucky and Indiana Boards of Pharmacy required before or on hire.

Responsibilities

• Fills and dispenses community prescriptions, handles computer order entry, updates patient information, labels medications, and processes transactions.
• Delivers medications to discharging patients per pharmacist requests.
• Performs prescriber outreach for prescription refills under pharmacist supervision.
• Assists with scheduling and coordinating home delivery for prescriptions.
• Assists in inventory management and physical inventory preparation.
• Prioritizes workflow to maximize patient impact and ensures tasks are completed by end of shift.
• Performs simple nonsterile compounding under direct supervision per USP 795 guidelines and state law.
• Assists in training new staff as assigned.
• Escalates problems or patient complaints to the Pharmacist when unresolved.
• Attends and contributes to meetings and committees as assigned.

Summary

The primary purpose of the Community/Retail Pharmacy Technician is to assist the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager with serving customers and maintaining the Community Pharmacy at Baptist Health. This position requires taking responsibility within appropriate guidelines under the supervision of the pharmacist for many of the medication preparation and distribution duties. The Community Pharmacy Technician will assist the Community Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacists in prescription fulfillment, playing a key role in pharmacy operations and providing excellent patient service. The Community Pharmacy Technician functions in a multi-skilled environment, which requires the application of teamwork, leadership and flexibility. This position has a high degree of interaction with patients, family members, visitors and other members of the health care team.

• Performs all functions and duties with the patient at the center, ensuring prompt and friendly service in the Community Pharmacy.

• Performs all tasks associated with the filling and dispensing of community prescriptions, including computer order entry, updating patient information, filling and labeling prescriptions, and completing transactions at the point of sale.

• Delivery of medications to discharging patients per Pharmacist’s requests.

• Completes prescriber outreach for prescription refills under direct pharmacist supervision.

• Assists with scheduling and coordinating home delivery for prescriptions.

• Assists in inventory management processes, including order review, inventory returns, restocking shelves, and physical inventory preparation.

• Ability to prioritize workflow by patient impact and ensure that all assigned tasks are completed at the end of the shift.

• Performs simple nonsterile compounding per current USP<795> guidelines and as permitted by state law under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

• Assists in training new staff when assigned.

• Escalates all identified problems or patient complaints, if they cannot be corrected by the employee, to the Pharmacist.

• Attends and contributes to the content of meetings and committees as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency is required.

• Previous retail pharmacy experience preferred.

• If not currently registered, the registration with Kentucky Board of Pharmacy and Indiana Board of Pharmacy will be required before or on the date of hire (only an application and fee).

• Must be available to travel to Baptist Health Community Pharmacy locations as needed. Float locations will be Louisville, New Albany, IN and LaGrange.
