Job summary

The Goddard Riverside Community Center seeks a Community Resource Specialist to support outreach, food pantry distribution, and wellness checks for low income families and older adults in East Harlem and Yorkville.

You will work on a team to assess needs, assist with registrations, and deliver pantry items in a respectful, efficient manner.

Qualifications

• High School or High School Equivalency Diploma required; some college or experience preferred.
• Experience working with community members; comfortable with home deliveries.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the distribution of nutritional food packages to eligible clients, including stocking shelves and assisting with deliveries.
• Deliver pantry bags to community members and conduct intake/assessment.
• Maintain logs of deliveries and support data entry for reporting and contracts.
• Conduct community needs assessments of older adults in public housing and surrounding areas.
• Provide support for aging services programming and case assistance needs.

Organization Overview: The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Community Resource Coordinator, the Community Resource Specialist assists with community outreach and engagement activities meant to promote food security, housing security, socialization, financial security, and health access. The Community Resource Specialist will work on a team to facilitate community needs assessment, food pantry distribution, outreach and wellness checks, and other program activities and initiatives.Schedule: 35 hours per weekHourly Rate: $19.24Roles, Responsibilities and Essential DutiesAssist in all aspects of the distribution of nutritional food packages to eligible clients, including, but not limited to, stocking shelves, assisting with deliveries, and conducting intake and assessment.Assist with packaging food itemsDelivering pantry bags to community members as per the assigned routeMaintain an accurate log of deliveriesPerform data entry to support the flow of data and statistics for internal reporting and contract requirements.Conduct Community Needs Assessment of older adults living in public housing and surrounding communities.Provide assistance with case assistance needs such as intakes and registrations, Telephone reassurance, shopping assistance, and simple benefit and entitlement applications.Track data associated with support callsSupport homebound older adults.Provide support to aging services programmingProvide assistance to Community Resource CoordinatorPerform other duties as requested.Qualifications:High School or High School Equivalency Diploma required; some college or experience preferred.Experience working with Community MembersComfortable with making home deliveriesGood communication skills both listening and following directionsProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PublisherAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.Ability to work in Indoor/Outdoor environments in various weather conditionsAbility to walk, climb stairs, carry and deliver packages of foodBilingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese is a plus.Required to work the occasional evening and weekends as per program need.Ability to work either Thanksgiving or Christmas DayWe are committed to building an inclusive workplace community grounded in respect for differences.
