  • MAP certification or willingness to complete MAP program within a specified period.

Responsibilities

  • Complete clear, concise, and timely documentation, including encounter forms and shift notes.
  • Establish professional relationships with patients while maintaining boundaries.
  • Lead and co-lead patient groups and supervise activities as needed.
  • Administer and supervise medication as prescribed and report side effects to medical staff.
  • Assist with activities of daily living and ensure patient safety during transport and rounds.

Job Summary

**This is an overnight position**

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Community Residence Counselor provides direct patient care and participates in the therapeutic milieu within the scope of defined practice. This role provides direct patient care through group and individual counseling in accordance with the current treatment plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete clear, concise, and timely documentation, including encounter forms and shift notes.
  • Establish helpful relationships with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Participate in patient rounds or teams according to program guidelines.
  • Complete assigned patient care tasks according to program guidelines.
  • Intervene in managing complex patient situations.
  • Remain awake and alert at all times while on the job.
  • Work effectively to manage the therapeutic milieu.
  • Lead and co-lead patient groups.
  • Provide and supervise community activities according to patient needs, which may include transporting patients to and from activities in hospital vehicles.
  • Provide patients with direction and supervision as needed.
  • Follow established program policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Assume leadership when functioning in the charge counselor position by delegating duties and providing supervision when needed.
  • Communicate information regarding the patient milieu and therapeutic environment to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
    Medication Support
  • Supervise patients in taking medication as prescribed.
  • Follow all program and hospital-wide policies and procedures.
  • Report and document missed doses to appropriate staff.
  • Communicate observations related to medication side effects and desired effects to appropriate medical staff in a timely manner.
  • Support nursing staff in assisting patients with acquiring skills to successfully self-medicate.
    Activities of Daily Living
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Identify patient strengths and deficits related to activities of daily living and initiate and implement interventions to meet these needs.
  • Assess sleep patterns and assist patients with developing more appropriate sleep cycles, notifying the clinical team as necessary.
  • Assist patients in maintaining and keeping various appointments.
    Professional Growth and Competency
  • Maintain a commitment to professional growth and competency.
  • Complete mandatory in-service requirements.
  • Identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement with a supervisor.
  • Maintain competency for treating age‑specific patient populations.
  • Use supervision effectively to enhance professional growth and development.
  • Attend and participate in rounds and case conferences when appropriate.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED Required, Bachelors Degree Preferred No experience required. One year patient care or related experience preferred, preferably in a psychiatric setting. Skills: - Verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in collaboration with others. - Driver’s license (MA, CT, NH, NY, RI, VT) preferred (varies by program), and ability to satisfactorily meet hospital driving standards. Certifications: - Medication Administration Program Certification (SELECT PROGRAMS ONLY). Applicants who are not currently MAP certified will have a specified time period from the date of hire, to successfully complete a McLean sponsored MAP certification program. Successful passing of the Medication Administration Certification is a requirement of the job. - - All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes. - Required to complete electronic medical records training, and demonstrate 80% accuracy on competency test within 30 days of hire.

The position is for Gunderson Residence (GR) which focuses on the treatment of personality disorders (BPD, NPD, ASPD) in a multi-month residential program. Training integrates evidence based approaches in the treatment of these adults seeking treatment for severe comorbid psychopathy.
