The Salvation Army Northern Division Fargo Corps is seeking a Community Relations and Volunteer Coordinator to build relationships, engage volunteers, coordinate communications, and drive local support for programs and events in Fargo, ND.

Qualifications

Position Summary

The Salvation Army Northern Division Fargo Corps is “Doing the Most Good” through holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families. Through worship services and pastoral care, alongside social services, the Corps supports the spiritual and practical needs of the community. Services include short- and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing assistance; youth and community programs; seasonal assistance; and connections to community resources.

The Community Relations and Volunteer Coordinator builds relationships that increase awareness of The Salvation Army’s mission and strengthen community support. The position develops community partnerships, leads volunteer engagement, coordinates Corps communications, and leads local implementation of the annual Red Kettle Campaign while supporting Corps programs and events.

$24 to $26 per hour, 40 hours a week

Essential Functions (Approximate Time Spent)

• Volunteer Leadership & Community Campaigns (40%): Recruit, schedule, train, recognize, and support volunteers for year-round programs, seasonal initiatives, and special events. Lead local implementation of the annual Red Kettle Campaign, including volunteer recruitment, kettle scheduling, community participation, and day‑to‑day operations. Partner with Divisional Headquarters Development as appropriate to support campaign efforts.
• Community Partnerships & Outreach (35%): In partnership with Corps leadership, develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, churches, civic groups, and local businesses to strengthen community engagement and awareness of Corps programs. Represent The Salvation Army through presentations, networking, outreach activities, and collaborative initiatives.
• Communications (15%): Coordinate Corps social media, promotional materials, event communications, and other outreach messaging to promote programs, volunteer opportunities, and community events while maintaining consistent Salvation Army branding and messaging.
• Program & Event Support (10%): Provide logistical and volunteer support for Corps programs, community activities, seasonal initiatives, and special events as needed.

Education And Experience

• Associate degree in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, public relations, business, human services, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Two years of related experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, communications, marketing, nonprofit services, or a related field preferred.
• Experience building community partnerships and working with volunteers preferred.
• Must pass required background checks, possess a valid driver’s license, and meet The Salvation Army’s Motor Vehicle Record requirements.

Working Conditions

• This is a site- and community‑based position and is not eligible for remote work. Regular local travel and work in office, community, and event environments is required.
• Regular computer and administrative work associated with communications, volunteer coordination, and community outreach.
• Evening and weekend work required at times to support community activities, special events, and seasonal campaigns.
• Must occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provides training, scheduling, coordination, and direction to volunteers supporting Corps programs, community initiatives, and seasonal campaigns.

Driving/Travel Requirements

• Regular local travel throughout the community for meetings, presentations, volunteer activities, outreach, and partnership development.
