Role

We are seeking a Community Relations Specialist to join our External Relations Team. In this role, you will be responsible for working closely with the Community Relations Director to develop and maintain positive relationships between Lithium Americas Corp (LAC) and local communities in and around Humboldt County, Nevada. You will engage with diverse stakeholders including Native American tribes, ranchers, farmers, and community members to foster trust in the company, address concerns about the Thacker Pass project, and promote collaborative initiatives between LAC and various stakeholders. This role requires regular presence in local communities and active participation in relationship-building efforts. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization committed to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in the clean energy sector.

The role is based at our Winnemucca office and reports to the Community Relations Director. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and attending community meetings, events, and outreach programs
  • Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including tribal members, agricultural groups, and residents.
  • Draft and prepare clean and culturally sensitive communication materials for community updates.
  • Assist with responding to inquiries and concerns from community members in a timely and professional manner.
  • Document community interactions, meetings, and outreach activities, and support tracking of recurring themes, concerns, and follow-up actions. Identify emerging community concerns or sensitive issues and escalte appropriately to the Community Relations Director.
  • Support community engagement efforts during high‑visibility or sensitive situations under the direction of the Community Relations Director.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to gather information and support consistent, accurate communication with community stakeholders.
  • Support collaboration between internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project transparency.
  • Identify community priorities and relay feedback to leadership.
  • Gather information on local issues, cultural considerations, and community needs.
  • Assist in preparing reports and summaries for management and regulatory purposes.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and Values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience in community outreach, public engagement, customer service, or a related field involving regular stakeholder interaction.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work respectfully with employees, stakeholders, and diverse cultural groups, including Native American communities.
  • Basic understanding of rural industries and cultures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends for community events.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within rural Nevada.
