Role

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our Environmental team and play a key role in ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental regulations. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing programs, procedures and systems. You will play a key role in addressing potential environmental risks, support sustainable operations, and drive continuous improvement. The role will be based initially at our Winnemucca office but will transition to the Thacker Pass site, located approximately 70 miles northwest of Winnemucca, NV. The role reports to the Environmental Manager. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage environmental programs, procedures, projects, and policies in alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements. Develop plans to prevent or mitigate damage to the environment and coordinate response to emergencies such as hydrocarbon spills or chemical leaks
  • Perform site audits and inspections to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental regulations and applicable permits
  • Supervise and mentor environmental technicians, ensuring accuracy in sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping activities. Collect and analyze environmental data related to air, water, and other media to identify patterns, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence and documentation for review by the Environmental Manager
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to integrate sustainable practices and environmental best-practice design solutions. Monitor and manage waste disposal, recycling, and pollution control systems to ensure responsible resource management.
  • Investigate and resolve environmental issues or complaints
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and respond to inquiries or inspections, ensuring timely and professional communication during inspections and inquiries.
  • Stay current on environmental laws, technologies, and sustainability trends to support continuous improvement
  • Builds and maintains trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and Values
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • 2–5 years of relevant work experience
  • Certifications such as EIT, LEED, or Certified Environmental Engineer (CEE), preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one is a plus
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (preferred)
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Proficiency with environmental modeling software and data analysis tools or software (preferred).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, or environmental simulation tools (preferred)
  • Familiarity with environmental databases, such as Ecesis (preferred).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
