Job summary

The City of Decatur is seeking a part-time Recreation Specialist to assist and implement recreational activities, supervise participants, and coordinate programs within DPRD guidelines. The role requires strong customer service, communication, and administrative support across program operations.

Responsibilities include developing classes, recruiting participants, managing registrations via CommunityPass, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge of basic office procedures and computer skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
• Prior experience in clerical and secretarial work or in office management preferred.
• Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the public, and city officials.

Responsibilities

• Develops, promotes, and organizes programming for all ages.
• Recruits community members to participate in programs and events.
• Responds to inquiries and complaints or refers to the appropriate person.
• Assists customers in person, by phone, and via email.
• Supervises program areas and enforces rules.
