Job Description

Chamberlain College of Nursing seeks Part‑Time Clinical Nursing Faculty to teach our BSN Nursing program in Roanoke, Virginia. The instructor will mentor students in person at an inpatient clinical setting located in the Salem, VA area, bridging classroom and simulation learning with real‑world patient care to ensure students are well‑prepared and confident as health professionals.

Scheduling

• Schedule is determined based on course need and the clinical specialty for each 8‑week session.
• Typically, instructors are scheduled for 3–4 consecutive 12‑hour shifts over a period of 1–2 weeks each session.
• Additional dates may not be available, and clinical dates are not guaranteed for every session.

Community‑Public Health Nursing

Students will demonstrate nursing skills in an outpatient health‑care center. The public/community health nurse acts as a partner with the community to shape health‑supportive conditions, applying the nursing process beginning with assessment of community health and wellness.

Responsibilities

• Implement the College's philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through clinical teaching and service to the College, community, health system, and profession.
• Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads.
• Plan clinical experiences, provide direct supervision, and evaluate nursing students delivering care to individuals or groups.
• Makes self‑available to staff at agencies.
• Evaluate and provide documented feedback to students on performance based on course objectives.
• Remediate students as required or needed.
• Orient and maintain current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies, procedures, and expectations with assistance from agency/clinical personnel.
• Develop and post written clinical assignments aligned with students’ knowledge base, skill competency, and learning needs.
• Correct and return homework, quizzes, tests, lab assignments, clinical paperwork, and other written work in a timely manner.
• Contribute to ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and the College.
• May teach didactic course content under supervision of course coordinator.
• Keep course coordinator informed of all student and agency issues and concerns.
• Collaborate with college administration, staff, and faculty to improve overall operations and student satisfaction.
• Participate in the College Assessment Program, campus retention efforts, and departmental and campus policies.
• Serve as a professional role model for faculty, staff, and students in customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, dress, attendance, and general professionalism.
• Use relationship skills in group problem solving, consensus building, and win‑win negotiation.
• Comply with all applicable regulatory rules and standards.
• Report to the dean or assistant dean; a course coordinator will also provide direct oversight.
• Handle related duties as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

• A master’s or doctoral degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
• An unencumbered professional RN license in Virginia.
• Illinois RN license will be required to teach all courses (assignments prioritized to professors currently licensed in Illinois).
• Active BLS certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network).
• At least two years of professional experience within the last five years in the area of clinical instruction as a registered nurse.
• Nurses with solid clinical experience and a completed MSN are encouraged to apply, as teaching experience is not required.
