Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Community Project Coordinator to help deliver the Shildon and Newton Aycliffe Strategic Heritage Place Programme, part of a national initiative supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Working at the heart of a dynamic partnership, you will help bring together communities, heritage organisations and local stakeholders to develop projects, build relationships and create opportunities for people to connect with their heritage. Through this role, you will support activity that strengthens heritage assets, encourages participation and helps communities play an active role in shaping the future of Shildon and Newton Aycliffe.

Underpinned by a shared Theory of Change, the programme aims to build pride in local heritage, support sustainable heritage-led regeneration and create opportunities for people of all ages to engage with and shape their local heritage, with a particular focus on children and young people.

WHAT IS INVOLVED

You will be part of Durham County Council’s Audience Development & Engagement team within Culture, which develops and supports projects and partnerships that connect people with culture, heritage and creativity across County Durham.

Based at Locomotion in Shildon, with office space provided and hybrid working available, you will help deliver the Shildon and Newton Aycliffe Strategic Heritage Place programme, collaborating closely with programme partners and the external evaluator. You will contribute to activity that supports heritage, skills development, community participation and the future sustainability of key local heritage assets such as Shildon Railway Institute.

You will support the coordination of projects and activities that connect local people with their heritage, helping partners deliver programme activity and supporting evaluation and reporting to demonstrate progress and impact.

As a key point of contact for partners and stakeholders, you will help build strong local relationships and support communities and organisations to develop skills, confidence and connections. You will also contribute to events, communications and partnership activity across the programme.

You will also have experience of working with community organisations, volunteers or partner networks and an interest in heritage, culture or place-based regeneration. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
