Job description

Job summary

We are seeking enthusiastic, passionate, and motivated Community Mental Health Nurses to join our Perinatal Mental Health Team in the Cannock area. Our specialist service aims to deliver excellent care to expectant and new mothers with severe and complex mental health issues.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the perinatal service and influence the future of perinatal mental health care in Staffordshire. You will join a friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team with extensive training, regular supervision, reflective practice, and career progression opportunities.

As a team member, you will provide specialist assessments and interventions to women and families during pregnancy, delivery, and up to 12 months postpartum. You will also strengthen our links with Midwifery, Health Visiting, Maternal Mental Health Service, Family Nurse Partnership, Adult Mental Health, IAPT, CAMHS, and voluntary sectors.

Due to the pandemic, we have adopted new ways of working, including blended working arrangements that will continue as clinically appropriate. The team collaborates closely with the Brockington Parent and Baby Unit in Stafford, The Lotus Service, and the Shropshire Community Perinatal Mental Health Team.

Main duties include:

  1. Managing a complex caseload with assessments, care planning with service users and carers, and evaluating treatment plans.
  2. Participating in setting quality standards, auditing, monitoring, and reviewing practice according to clinical guidelines and policies.
  3. Assessing individual care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs.
  4. Delivering interventions aligned with care plans, including pharmacological and psychologically informed approaches.
  5. Completing risk assessments and management plans, promoting positive risk-taking to enhance quality of life and independence.
  6. Maintaining effective reporting on patient conditions verbally and in writing.
  7. Using outcome measures to review intervention effectiveness within care planning and evaluation.
  8. Keeping professional competence up-to-date within the environment.
  9. Supporting evidence-based practice and participating in research and projects as required.
