HDR is seeking an in-house Community Outreach Specialist to join our Communications and Marketing Team. The selected candidate will support a valued client based in Pompano Beach, primarily focusing on community outreach and communication efforts related to construction projects.

This position involves working closely with project managers, contractors, customers, and the community to enhance awareness, understanding, and engagement on active construction projects. The candidate will also collaborate with a team supporting statewide programs.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Project Communications & Engagement
    • Attend weekly construction meetings to stay informed on project developments.
    • Develop accessible and timely communication materials such as fact sheets, presentations, graphics, FAQs, and updates.
    • Act as a liaison between construction projects and the community to ensure stakeholders receive accurate information.
    • Coordinate and execute public outreach campaigns during various project phases.
    • Plan and facilitate public meetings, open houses, and community sessions.
    • Create content for websites, newsletters, and outreach platforms.
  2. Stakeholder Coordination & Issue Resolution
    • Work with project managers to identify and manage public information needs.
    • Respond to inquiries, complaints, and concerns from the public.
    • Coordinate with officials and community groups to maintain positive relationships and address concerns proactively.
    • Draft and submit responses to media and official inquiries.
    • Assist in distributing updates and mass mailers to communities.
  3. Special Events & Outreach Support
    • Support events like groundbreakings and ribbon-cuttings.
    • Develop educational and promotional materials about projects.
    • Represent the company at community meetings and outreach events.
  4. Social Media & Digital Communications
    • Create and post content on social media platforms.
    • Assist with email campaigns and website updates.
  5. General Support & Reporting
    • Provide communication support to leadership as needed.
    • Maintain outreach documentation and reports.
    • Ensure messaging consistency.
  6. Note: Some evening/weekend work and travel within Florida may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Experience with public information, transportation, construction, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with graphic design tools.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English with translation experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of FDOT policies and construction processes.
  • Experience managing social media campaigns and digital outreach.
  • Experience working on FDOT projects and understanding of public involvement policies.
  • Completion of FDOT public involvement training preferred.
  • Local candidates preferred.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience.
  • Experience leading social media campaigns.
  • Service-oriented personality with multitasking abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and a proactive attitude.
