Job summary

City of Chicago seeks a Community Outreach Coordinator to support the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability. The role focuses on coordinating outreach efforts, coordinating meetings, and building strong ties with residents and community partners to advance district priorities.

Responsibilities include facilitating communications between District Councilors, managing logistics for public meetings, and ensuring compliance with Open Meetings Act.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences or a related field plus 3 years of community or social services experience.
• Seven years of community or social services work experience accepted as alternate.
• Alternative: Associate’s degree + 5 years of related work experience; Master’s degree + 1 year experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform community outreach activities and disseminate information to residents.
• Develop collaborative relationships with District Councilors to align activities with goals.
• Plan and coordinate monthly and special public meetings with logistical and Open Meetings Act compliance.
• Support district outreach, canvassing, newsletter and email distribution efforts.
• Build links with residents, organizations, and institutions to address concerns and increase engagement.
• Coordinate with Chicago Police Department on district concerns and priorities.
• Connect District Councils with City departments and community resources.
• Provide guidance and tools to strengthen governance and outreach efforts.
• Identify and implement best practices and community events to raise awareness.
• Maintain records and prepare reports of outreach activities.

Education

Bachelor's in Social Sciences or related field

Associate’s in Social Sciences + 5+ years experience

Master’s degree in Social Sciences or related field + 1 year experience
