Job summary

La Clínica de La Raza Inc. seeks an optometrist to champion vision health for diverse patients across the Bay Area. You will examine eyes, prescribe and fit eyewear, and develop treatment plans while working with a committed team in a multi-site community health network.

The role emphasizes patient education, preventive care, and collaboration with ophthalmology and healthcare colleagues to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of optometry.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certificate required with 30-day grace period.
• One year internship and/or experience in a community clinic or private practice.

Responsibilities

• Examine eyes, using instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and diagnose diseases.
• Prescribe, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
• Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan.
• Perform routine vision and ocular examinations to provide appropriate corrections.
• Provide pre- and post-operative care for eye surgeries.
• Train assistants to perform screening and other functions.
• Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
• Educate and counsel patients on lens care and safety factors.
• Refer patients to ophthalmologist or other practitioners when needed.
• Engage in continuing education and screening programs.
• Serve as admin/operations resource to optometry student interns.
• Attend staff meetings; perform other duties as assigned.
