Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor or other 4-year degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent.
• Strong planning orientation.
• Professional proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English.
• Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
• Basic literacy in word processing and Internet browsing/research.
• Familiarity with AP Style and local modifications.
• Familiarity with InDesign and Blox.
• Knowledge of current design trends and advancements.

Responsibilities

• Handle day-to-day reporting, editing and story selection, copy editing, proofing, design and pagination of the newspaper, including special or niche publications.
• Assist in choosing content and determining story and graphics placements for news and features sections, and oversee their overall design.
• Demonstrate extraordinary news judgment in choosing stories and advising in the placement of local stories.
