Job summary

Larimer County is seeking a compassionate Community Justice Therapist to join a multidisciplinary team delivering residential and outpatient addiction, mental health, and criminogenic treatment programming. You will work with a criminal justice population in a 7-day program with flexible shifts and strong emphasis on client-centered, trauma-informed care.

The role requires CAS or equivalent certification with a Master’s degree as a substitute; licensure and driver’s license are expected.

• Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health field required for Therapist I.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group therapy in residential substance use and aftercare programs.
• Facilitate gender-responsive groups on substance abuse, mental health, trauma-informed care, cognitive restructuring, and life skills.
• Conduct substance abuse/mental health evaluations to determine client needs.
• Provide individual and relational therapy as appropriate to support client progress.
• Maintain accurate client documentation and records.

Larimer County Community Corrections is looking for a skilled therapist to join our dynamic team of professionals. The Community Justice Therapist will work within our residential and outpatient addictions, mental health, and criminogenic treatment programming with a population that is serving a criminal justice sentence. Our treatment programs consist of men's and women's 90-day Intensive Residential Treatment (IRT), 21-day Strategic Individualized Remediation Treatment (STIRT), and Residential Dual Diagnosis Treatment (RDDT). We are seeking a compassionate, flexible, and purpose-driven individual dedicated to supporting a resilient population through their journey and as they navigate the stages of change.

To support the operational needs of a 7-day program, this position offers flexible schedule options. Shift assignments may include Monday through Friday (with two evening shifts), Sunday through Thursday, or Tuesday through Saturday during typical business hours. Schedules may occasionally fluctuate to accommodate evolving program needs and mandatory reporting requirements.

What you'll be doing:

• Collaborating with the treatment team to provide individual and group therapy sessions for participants in residential substance use and aftercare programs.
• Facilitating a range of client-centered, gender-responsive groups focused on substance abuse, mental health, trauma-informed care, cognitive restructuring, and life skills development.
• Conducting substance abuse and/or mental health evaluations to assess client needs.
• Providing individual and relational therapy when appropriate to support client progress.
• Ensuring accurate and up-to-date client documentation and record-keeping.

What we're looking for:

• Certification as a Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS).
• Expertise in research-informed practices for addressing addiction and working with criminal justice-involved clients.
• Ability to thrive in an environment where culture is key to success and collaboration.

Depending on qualifications, this position may be hired as Community Justice Therapist I or II.

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

Community Justice Therapist I

• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, in a behavioral health field as defined by the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) required.
• Related education or experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
• Six (6) months' experience providing substance abuse treatment is required, preferably in criminal justice or a related area.
• Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS), required. Master's degree in related field and experience providing substance use treatment services may substitute for CAS.
• Possession of a valid Driver’s License by date of hire, required.
• Possession of Adult First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications within six (6) months of hire, required.

Community Justice Therapist II

• A master's degree in a license-eligible behavioral health field as defined by the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) required.
• One (1) year of experience providing substance abuse and mental health treatment is required, preferably in criminal justice or related area.
• A certified Addictions Specialist (CAS) or Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) is required.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire is required.
• Possession of Adult First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications within six (6) months of hire, is required.
