Job summary

The City of Kodiak seeks a full-time Municipal Corrections Officer to oversee the Kodiak Community Jail and the individuals detained there. Responsibilities include supervising inmates, booking and releasing prisoners, conducting searches, and ensuring orderly operations and supplies.

The officer must exhibit unquestionable integrity, perform duties with courage, compassion and respect, and represent the City and Police Department with professionalism at all times.

Qualifications

  • Must meet Alaska APSc standards and be at least 19 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED and up to one year of corrections experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must obtain Alaska Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to attend Municipal Corrections Officer Training Academy.
  • Possess or ability to obtain the basic APSC Municipal Corrections Officer Certification.
  • Possess or ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED/Blood Borne Pathogens certifications.
  • Obtain and maintain APSIN security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain certification in less-lethal tools and defensive tactics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain care, custody, and control of detainees; monitor safety and security; use de-escalation, restraints as needed.
  • Conduct security checks; screen visitors; supervise meals and medications.
  • Book and release inmates; verify warrants and paperwork; manage property and bed assignments.
  • Process offenders in electronic monitoring programs and report violations.
  • Create jail records and write incident reports; prepare logs and reports.
