Job summary

The Champaign Park District is hiring a Community Impact Coordinator to strengthen connections between residents and our parks, recreation, and programs. You will lead volunteer coordination, community partnerships, and outreach initiatives to create welcoming opportunities for all neighbors in Champaign.

As a full-time role, you will build relationships, plan events, recruit volunteers, and collaborate with multiple departments to broaden access and participation.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 4 years of experience in public engagement, community outreach, or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Community Development, Human Services, or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in diverse and multicultural environments.

Responsibilities

  • Help build meaningful relationships with underserved communities, identify barriers to participation, and expand access to parks, programs, and recreation opportunities.
  • Develop and coordinate district-wide community engagement and outreach initiatives.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, nonprofits, and local leaders.
  • Represent the Park District at community events and promote programs and services.
  • Recruit, train, support, and recognize volunteers across the Park District.
  • Develop volunteer policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Coordinate community advisory groups and stewardship initiatives.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with staff across departments to strengthen community connections and engagement.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in public engagement, community outreach, or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Community Development, Human Services, or a closely related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated interest in diverse program areas, with an ability to understand and appreciate the perspective of a wide variety of individuals.
  • Experience working in multicultural and diverse environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and effectively utilize web-based software systems.
  • Knowledge of park and recreation programming a plus.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
