Job summary

Penn State University is seeking a Community Health Educator (Student Wellness Specialist – Intermediate Professional) to provide individualized health promotion services to students with alcohol or cannabis policy violations.

Under the supervision of an Assistant Director, you will deliver screenings, brief interventions, and referrals, educate on harm reduction, and lead workshops for campus groups while helping develop health promotion initiatives and programs.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree plus 1+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of BASICS and motivational interviewing preferred.
• Experience with health promotion theory and evidence-based prevention/intervention strategies.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual alcohol and cannabis education services.

POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State’s Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) is seeking a Community Health Educator (Student Wellness Specialist – Intermediate Professional) to provide individual health promotion services to students with alcohol or cannabis policy and/or legal violations.

The Community Health Educator reports to an Assistant Director. Specific job duties include:

• Provide individual alcohol and cannabis education services.
• Deliver brief screening, assessment, intervention, and referral for students with conduct-related violations and substance-related emergency department visits.
• Educate students about harm reduction strategies.
• Apply motivational interviewing strategies.
• Conduct education workshops about alcohol and cannabis for fraternities, sororities, student organizations, and academic classes.
• Assist with the development and implementation of health promotion initiatives, as needed.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Preferred Position Qualifications

• Knowledge of and experience with the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) program and motivational interviewing.
• Knowledge of and experience with health promotion theory and evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies.
• Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification.

Health Promotion and Wellness is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides health promotion programs, services, and events for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $49,188.00 - $71,340.00.
