Job description

Under general supervision, plans, implements, and evaluates health education and/or clinical training programs, conferences, and other associated activities for individual, group, and/or community needs. Collaborates with other health specialists to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and determine availability of professional health services. Develops and maintain cooperation between public, civic, professional, and voluntary agencies.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in making recommendations for purchases to meet section needs. Monitors expenditures during the year.

  • Plans, develops, and designs health education and training programs, including preparation, facilitation, and follow-up.
  • Evaluates programs; performs research on relevant topics and develops and/or revises curriculum modules and/or presentation materials as appropriate.
  • Presents lectures and training to groups and/or individuals, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates the activities of consultants, agencies, and other providers involved in specific programs.
  • Participates in the development of marketing and promotional goals and strategies, as appropriate; may write grant proposals and seek funding for programs.
  • Serves as a point of contact in area of expertise; refers clients to other support services, such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services, as appropriate.
  • Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials.
  • May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  • Maintains current knowledge base on specific health issues, particularly in area of expertise.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to transport self from building to building and to attend various functions and meetings at other sites either within or outside of the city.
  • Duties are performed in an office setting, and in the field; both indoors and occasionally in outdoor, residential, and business settings.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases, blood and other bodily fluids.
  • Preparation for training and exercises may require some lifting and moving of heavy equipment. Employee should be capable of lifting and moving 50 pounds at a time.
  • Fine dexterity when using computer keyboard, telephone keypad, and calculator.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate typical office environment.

  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to design, prepare, deliver, and modify course curriculum and associated educational aids.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health or similar; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health or similar preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
