Job summary

Appalachian Center for Independent Living (ACIL) in Charleston, WV, seeks a full-time AmeriCorps Member to bridge ACIL with a developing community garden. You will foster a welcoming, accessible space for people of all ages and abilities to learn, garden, and contribute.

The role emphasizes community partnerships, hands-on gardening, and creating sustainable programs that extend beyond the service term. Transportation to ACIL offices and events is required.

Qualifications

• Experience with sustainable gardening.
• Experience working with people across generations and abilities.
• Passion for community engagement and helping disabled individuals participate.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships between ACIL consumers, the community garden, volunteers, and partners.
• Promote participation by individuals with disabilities, veterans, seniors, families, and others.
• Identify and address barriers for people with disabilities in the garden.
• Promote accessible and adaptive gardening practices, tools, activities, and spaces.
• Organize gardening activities, educational programs, events, and volunteer opportunities.
• Develop partnerships with organizations serving diverse generations and abilities.
• Connect individuals with ACIL’s Independent Living services as appropriate.
• Gather feedback and identify opportunities to improve accessibility and inclusion.
