Job summary

Town of Smithfield is seeking a Patrol Officer to perform preventive patrol and law enforcement functions to protect life and property and preserve peace within the community.

You will respond to calls for service, provide emergency and non-emergency services, and engage in investigations, traffic enforcement, and evidence handling while maintaining equipment in readiness. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice and pass Fit2Serve tests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice from an accredited college or university.
• Must pass Fit2Serve tests and upload certificates during the application process.

Responsibilities

• Exercise authority consistent with the oath of office.
• Respond to calls for service and provide first aid when applicable.
• Arrest persons for violating the law or wanted by other agencies.
• Gather information in criminal investigations via interviews and statements.
• Perform searches of people, vehicles, buildings, and large outdoor areas.
• Issue traffic citations and enforce motor vehicle laws and parking ordinances.
• Maintain weapons and equipment in operational readiness.
• Complete detailed reports on crimes, arrests, and incidents.
• Testify in court in a professional and timely manner.
