Job summary

The City of Martinez seeks a Police Officer to patrol, enforce laws, respond to incidents, and conduct investigations in our community. The incumbent will work under general supervision and may be assigned to patrol, traffic, investigations, and training duties.

A high school diploma or GED is required, with POST-certified or POST-waived candidates preferred; must be 21+, hold a valid CA driver’s license, and pass medical, drug, polygraph, and background checks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; graduation from a California POST approved academy or POST waiver.
• Must meet POST criteria and California Government Code §1031.
• Desirable: Associate's degree in criminal justice, psychology, or related field.
• Must be at least 21 years of age; valid CA driver's license and clean driving record.
• Medical exam, drug screen, polygraph, background investigation required.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas by car, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot to preserve law and order and enforce laws.
• Respond to calls for service including emergencies, accidents, and public safety concerns; conduct investigations.
• Prepare warrants, arrest suspects, control and manage arrestees; interview victims and witnesses.
• Direct traffic at events and emergencies; provide public safety information and community liaison.
• Testify in court; participate in training and drills; perform related duties as assigned.
